Hiring a Nanny Can be Easier Than You Think
Our children are the most important people in our lives. We want to be sure the person caring for them will love them and protect them as we would. But how can you find the right nanny? Search through the classified ads? Ask a friend or relative? Those are good options, especially asking friends and relatives. If they know a good nanny, you can be sure she or he is someone you can trust with your kids. But, not all friends and family members know of any nannies, and the classified ads are cumbersome to weed through. A better way is to let nannies bid to serve you.
A nanny is someone who dedicates his or her life to the care and well-being of children. She is more than just a baby-sitter. Most baby-sitters are in the business for the money. Nannies are in for the kids. They become like a second mother or father. Not that they will ever replace you, just fill in for you when you can’t be there.

Becoming a Nanny Could be The Career Choice for You
There was a time, in our not-so-recent past, when being a nanny was a valid career choice for women. That isn’t so true these days, with the choices that are more available for women. In economic hard times, though, like the one we’re currently in, it may be a good idea to re-think the whole nanny-as-career idea.
Nannies, for example, don’t have to work about room-and-board, for one thing. Let’s face it, childcare isn’t the most lucrative job in the world. No one gets rich by working with children, not even teachers. Most of us agree that that’s unfair, and that teachers and people who work with children are underpaid and deserve higher salaries, but very few of us are willing to actually pay for it.
One way to cut expenses, especially in this time of high prices and low employment, is becoming a nanny. Most nannies live in the home of the family they’re working for; some even have an expense account and a car. It’s an ideal job for college students who are working their way through school. Traditionally, most nannies have been women, but some men actually do work as nannies. (Although they’re often called “mannies.”)
Modern-day nannies (and mannies) perform a variety of tasks. Below is a list of them:
- Providing childcare.
- Supporting the physical, emotional, creative, and intellectual development of the children under your care.
- Protecting the children and ensuring that they have a safe environment.
- Preparing appetizing and nutritionally-healthy meals and snacks.
- Maintaining good communication with the children’s parents.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the children’s home.
Becoming a nanny may take you out of the country as well, and expose you to other cultures and exciting experiences. These kinds of nannies, the ones who come from another country, are called au pairs. Au pairs are more than just domestic servants; it’s expected that they become part of the family they’re working for. As a matter of fact, the phrase au pair is French, which means “on par” or “equal to.”
Becoming a nanny, a manny, or an au pair may be a valid alternative to find satisfying work in hard economic times. BidToServe.com can help you start a fulfilling career working with children and helping their families.

Re-thinking Childcare in the 21st Century
I’m sure that when you hear the word “nanny,” you automatically think of Mary Poppins. Now, Mary Poppins was a stereotypical example of how wealthy Brits did childcare in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She lived in the same home as the family she worked for. She provided all of the children’s education. She supervised them 24/7. She was really the one who raised the children, not the parents.
These days, in the early 21st century, childcare looks very different. Well-to-do and wealthy parents are much more active in the lives of their children. Childcare usually takes the form of the public school, unless the children are home schooled. There are after-school programs to supervise children until the parents arrive home from work. These days, both parents tend to work, so ensuring that the children are supervised after school has become even more important.
With our recent economic hard times, however, more and more parents are working at unconventional hours. Fewer parents are working the typical 9-to-5 days. If you have kids, what do you do with them while you’re at work? And what if you have little ones? Traditional childcare—the preschool or childcare center—can be outrageously expensive. If you live in a large urban area, there are often waiting lists because there simply aren’t the facilities to meet the need. The situation is even worse when times are tough, or for families without the same resources as more wealthy families.
Perhaps the solution is to re-think the way we do childcare in this country. I’m not talking about doing away with schools, of course, but I am talking about finding an economical alternative to the way we tend to take care of our children while we’re off at work, making a living to provide for them. Perhaps instead of transporting them to a site, it may benefit you to bring childcare into your own home, in the form of a nanny. BidToServe.com can help you find quality and trusted nanny service to help you take care of your most precious assets, your children.
